A quick and easy grilled chicken marinated in a sweet honey and hot harissa sauce that’s packed with flavour!

Harissa is a tasty chili paste from northern Africa containing chilies, roasted red peppers and spices and it’s an amazing ingredient that can be used in many ways including in this hot honey harissa chicken. The star of this recipe is the spicy harissa in the marinade that’s combined with sweet honey, lemon juice, garlic, paprika, cumin and coriander. All of the ingredients are mixed and applied to the chicken before marinating and then grilling, pan frying or broiling. This hot honey harissa chicken is amazing all by itself and it can be thrown into sandwiches, salads, burritos, quesadillas, etc.

A quick and easy grilled chicken marinated in a sweet honey and hot harissa sauce that’s packed with flavour!

ingredients
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons harissa (link)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (or red wine vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, chopped/minced/grated
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
directions
  1. Marinate the chicken in the mixture of the olive oil, honey, harissa, lemon juice, garlic, paprika, cumin, coriander, and salt, for 20 minutes to overnight.
  2. Pan fry (or grill) over medium-high heat until cooked through, about 3-5 minutes per side.

Option: Add 1 tablespoon parsley, finely chopped.
Option: Add 1 tablespoon cilantro, finely chopped.
